- famciclovir
- acyclovir
- valaciclovir
All medications come in a tablet form and are designed to stop the virus from multiplying, which reduces the length of an episode and outbreaks.

Episodic treatment
- Episodic treatment of genital herpes involves treating outbreaks when they occur.
- Taking medication at the first signs of an outbreak helps reduce the length and severity of symptoms, but does not alter the frequency of outbreaks.
- There are two day and five day treatments available. Your doctor may advise which treatment is best for you.
